Electrical Wiring: Residential will prove a valuable resource to instructors and students alike. It includes 2012 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CEC) references and wiring techniques. Each chapter is a complete lesson ending with review questions to summarize the material covered. The chapters are sequenced to introduce the student to basic principles and wiring practices, and progress to more advanced areas of residential electrical wiring. This text assumes no prior knowledge of residential electrical wiring, but the student will need a reasonable level of mechanical aptitude and skill to be successful in the practical application of the techniques discussed.

The text guides the student through the working drawings for a residential electrical installation, the proper wiring of receptacles, and the minimum required number of lighting and power branch circuits. Voltage drop calculations based on the CEC are shown. Grounding, bonding, and ground-fault circuit interrupters are discussed together with the lighting branch circuits for all of the rooms in the house, as well as for the garage, workshop, and exterior. Special-purpose outlets for ranges, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters, and water pumps are explained, as are electric, oil, and gas heating systems; heat detectors, smoke detectors, and smoke alarms; swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs; and low-voltage-signal systems, security systems, and low-voltage remote-control systems, or Smart House Wiring.
